The world-famous automotive giant announced that nearly 300 thousand customer information was leaked due to a software-related error.

Japan-based automotive giant Toyota said in a statement recently that 296,000 customer information was leaked. While hacker attacks have been frequent lately, Toyota has joined this with a figure of close to 300,000.

According to the information reported by Reuters, the information of the leaked 296,000 people stems from Toyota’s T-Connect service, which provides inter-car connectivity. This system serves to connect vehicles over a network.

TOYOTA CUSTOMER INFORMATION LEAKED

According to Toyota’s statement, this leak includes users registered with the T-Connect service since 2017. It was emphasized that only e-mail and customer numbers were leaked, while nothing happened to important data such as payment or identity information of the victims.

This leak, which affected thousands of customers, was obtained from the data server history, where the information is stored, according to security experts. However, nothing happened to important information such as credit card and identity information, which prevented the bad questions in the minds of customers.

Finally, Toyota noted that a contractor who developed the T-Connect website accidentally uploaded portions of the source code with publicly available settings from December 2017 to September 15 this year.
