The Japanese company is preparing for the reincarnation of iconic sports cars

Honda may revive the Prelude coupe as an electric car, according to Japan’s Best Car Web. According to the publication, in 2028, under the Honda brand, two sports electric cars with familiar names will be shown at once: the NSX will become the flagship coupe, and the Prelude concept will become the forerunner of a more affordable two-door. Both “battery” coupes are allegedly positioned as “global” models. The list of Honda’s upcoming new products includes two crossovers and a microvan.

Japanese journalists expect the imminent premiere of another version of the ZR-V crossover, a compact entry-level Honda SUV the size of a Toyota Yaris Cross, as well as a microvan that will compete with the new Toyota Sienta. All three new items will appear before the fall of 2023.

Plans for the long term are associated with the reincarnation of sports coupes. However, both the revival of the NSX and the development of the electric Prelude are quite possible, because by 2030 Honda plans to release 30 “battery” new products at once, including ten models of the e:N family for the Chinese market and a scattering of kei cars for domestic consumption.

Details about the Honda NSX flagship sports car are scarce, with insiders suggesting the coupe will feature solid-state batteries and an innovative all-wheel drive system. There is no information about the technology of the Prelude successor at all, but Honda is expected to attract customers with a futuristic design.

Honda’s electric future is planned out eight years in advance, but the Japanese brand currently has only one non-fuel-converted EV, the Honda e hatchback. In order not to lose share in the American electric car market, the automaker will have to sell crossovers on the General Motors platform.
